Almac case study: FlexaLAB showcases its flexibility!
Read the ITALIAN version
The flexibility and versatility of the FlexaLAB R&D capsule filler, together with its interchangeable
dosing units are the key features of the new MG2 success case study
With over 50 years’ experience, Almac Pharma Services is a world leading Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO) supporting hundreds of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners. Employing over 1,600 highly skilled individuals across 4 locations in Europe and the US, the company provides tailored, quality-led and timely solutions from early and late phase pharmaceutical development, clinical and commercial drug product manufacture, product launch through to commercial packaging and global distribution.
The global CDMO has two FlexaLAB capsule filling machines which have been operating for several years, one at its UK HQ facility in Craigavon (Northern Ireland) and one at its Charnwood Campus, in Loughborough (England).
Due to client demand, there was a requirement at the Charnwood facility to integrate the existing capsule filler, originally equipped with a powder dosing unit, with a universal tablet/micro-tablet feeding unit. The integration of this specific unit enabled Almac Pharma Services to satisfy current production needs and fill minitablets into a capsule as per the selected recipe to achieve the required count.

Overall, the universal tablets/microtablets feeding unit enables two types of solid pharmaceutical forms (such as tablets, micro-tablets, softgel and capsules) to be fed into the machine without the requirement for any specific size parts to handle different products.
This makes this unit particularly suitable for R&D laboratories and pharmaceutical companies which often have the need to fill capsules with a wide variety of solid products. Both the quantity to be fed into the capsule and the dosing accuracy can be set through the HMI for each product.
The modular production model enabled the installation of the additional unit years after the first purchase of the machine thus enabling Almac Pharma Services to adapt to meet growing market demand.
The versatility of the FlexaLAB has satisfied the customer’s specific production needs.
